I've spent more than 20 years in the wellness world. For close to a decade I taught group fitness all over Edmonton: spin, barre, total body strength. Now I'm on the other side of the room again, training for HYROX.
If you've done a HYROX race, you know it's a different kind of hard. It's eight kilometres of running, broken up by the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Your legs, your grip and your lungs all get tested in the same hour. The race is the fun part. The training block before it is where recovery decides how you show up.
Why I started Red Glo Labs
I've used red light therapy for about five years. It became part of my routine the same way stretching and sleep did: something I did because I noticed the difference when I skipped it.
When I went looking for a Canadian red light company I could trust, I couldn't find one led by a woman. I also couldn't find one where the founder actually used every product herself. So I built it.
Red Glo Labs is Canadian owned, woman owned and ships from Canada. Our devices are Health Canada licensed, and we have our irradiance independently measured, so you know what you're actually getting. Every product is tested by me before it goes on the site. If something goes wrong, you deal with me directly, and I fix it.
Where red light fits in a HYROX training week
Red light doesn't replace the basics. Sleep, fuel, mobility and smart programming still do the heavy lifting. Red light is the piece I add on top: a quiet 10 to 20 minutes after my hardest sessions, when my legs are done and I want to be ready to train again tomorrow.
Here's how I use it:
- Full body after big days: The GloPod and GloMat cover your whole body at once, which is perfect after a long run or a station-heavy session.
- Targeted spots: The GloFlex wraps around a knee, shoulder, quad or glute. It's small enough to throw in your gym bag.
- Rest days: A session on a rest day is part of how I treat recovery as training, not as time off.
Training for my own race
I've got my eye on HYROX Ottawa is the spring. I'm mixing strength work and more running than I'd ever volunteer for. Red light is part of every week.
If you're in a training block right now, I'd love for you to try it the way I do. Every device comes with a 30-day risk-free trial, and you'll be dealing with a real person who uses this stuff every day.
