What Do the Different LED Light Colors Actually Do? (Red Light Therapy Mask Guide)

If you’ve ever looked at a red light therapy mask and wondered why it flashes like a mini disco, you're not alone. Each LED color actually targets something different—and when used correctly, they can help improve everything from breakouts to fine lines. Here's a quick breakdown of what the colors mean and how they work.

🔴 Red Light (630–660nm)

  • Boosts collagen production

  • Smooths fine lines and wrinkles

  • Supports skin healing and elasticity

  • Best for: Aging skin, loss of firmness, dullness

🔵 Blue Light (around 470nm)

  • Kills acne-causing bacteria

  • Helps prevent breakouts

  • Soothes inflammation

  • Best for: Oily, acne-prone, or congested skin

⚠️ Blue Light Safety Note:
Blue light may worsen melasma or hyperpigmentation in some users. If you're prone to dark spots or pigmentation, stick to red or green modes instead.
Also, some people (like my husband 😅) experience eye strain or headaches with blue light—if that’s you, consider skipping this mode.

🟡 Yellow Light (around 590nm)

  • Reduces redness and blotchiness

  • Improves skin circulation

  • Calms sensitive or reactive skin

  • Best for: Rosacea, sensitive skin, post-treatment recovery

🟢 Green Light (around 520nm)

  • Targets pigmentation and dark spots

  • Evens out skin tone

  • Reduces redness

  • Best for: Hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone

🟣 Purple Light (Red + Blue Combo)

  • Combines anti-aging + acne-fighting benefits

  • Promotes healing while calming inflammation

  • Best for: Sensitive, acne-prone skin that also shows signs of aging

💡 Quick Tip:

You don’t need to use every color every session. Start with your top skin concern and rotate as needed—or use a combo mode if your mask has one!
